WWEekly TV Roundup 7/18/18
Another week of WWE main roster action is in the books so I am here to either praise and or destroy it as necessary. I’ve moved all these to one column to contain my negativity as much as humanly possible.
Roman Reigns defeated Finn Bálor and Drew McIntyre to advance to a match to determine Brock Lesnar’s next challenger for the Universal Championship
This was all set up by Kurt Angle finally showing some balls and threatening to strip Brock of the title. Heyman folded quickly, so this was the first of two matches that will set up the number one contender match for next week. For what it’s worth the match was really good. Everyone looked into it and did what they needed to do to keep the crowd into it. Hey, Roman gets an opportunity is a story they haven’t told in like a week or so. That’s fresh right?
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler defeated Bobby Roode
Wow, Bobby really looked like a shmuck here. The brother challenges a guy that had a grueling match the night before and drops the fall clean as a sheet. If they don’t turn him heel soon that fool is dead in the water.
Mojo Rawley defeated Tyler Breeze
This would have been much more competitive in NXT when Tyler wasn’t a complete joke. Squash burger with a side of squash.
Alicia Fox & Dana Brooke defeated Bayley & Sasha Banks via Disqualification
Sasha got DQ’d for beating up her opponents too much. That’s one of my least favorite reasons for a disqualification. We also get the reveal that not only does Sasha not hate Bayley, but she loves her and wants the best for her. Sasha better turn on her hard or the last 6 months have been a complete waste of time.
Raw Tag Team Champions The B-Team defeated The Ascension
To be honest they didn’t look super impressive in doing so. The Ascension was handling them pretty good and it almost seemed like the champs lucked into a win. Somebody is going to kill these fools but I’m not sure who yet. I’m hoping the Revival but don’t want to get my hopes up.
Ronda Rousey attacked Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss
I don’t want to make jokes about Ronda’s hair like everyone else on the internet but…damn. Ronda continues to bring intensity and believability every time she starts an attack. She is already way ahead of where I thought she would be and they would be best served putting the belt on her at Summer Slam and not killing her off like they did Asuka on the other side of WWE.
The Authors of Pain defeated Titus Worldwide
SQUASH. Also I am tired of Titus being protected while the infinitely more talented Apollo gets to take the loss every time. The AOP look good though, let’s keep that up.
Sarah Logan defeated Ember Moon
Good for Sarah. Plus Ember getting that loss out early keeps the stupid undefeated streak deal off the table. Both ladies did an admirable job out there.
Bobby Lashley defeated Seth Rollins and Elias to advance to a match to determine Brock Lesnar’s next challenger for the Universal Championship
So I sat through 3 hours of a show to see two good matches, that only served to give us a rematch of a contest I saw the night before? That had a clean ending? What kind of lazy ass shit are they trying to pull. It’ll be even worse if Summer Slam ends up a triple threat, I kinda want to see Bob and Brock shoot on each other.
An Idiot’s Opinion: Watch the two triple threat matches and skip the rest. Waste of three hours.
An enraged Jeff Hardy addressed Shinsuke Nakamura
Jeff still can’t talk.
AJ Styles defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas
I didn’t know that I needed this match until they announced it. I enjoyed the hell out of this. AJ looks like the man still and Almas looks like he could handle the best the WWE has to offer if pushed. Really solid contest and I bet they could do even better on a bigger stage.
Becky Lynch defeated Mandy Rose
Becky continues her story of redemption and Mandy continues to look like Mandy. Win, win for everyone. Not a bad match either, Becky should keep making people tap until she breaks Carmella’s arm.
Samoa Joe defeated Tye Dillinger
Joe is the damn man still. Tye got to hang in there for a bit but the ending was what it needed to be.
Daniel Bryan interrupted The Miz’s “funeral” for Team Hell No
I love the Miz, and I wanted his ass kicked soooo bad. My favorite bit was him shaking everyone’s hand and telling them he was sorry for their loss. The guy just strikes every asshole chord in such a way that if he isn’t the best heel in the business he’s close enough. I want Bryan to hurt this bastard. Good stuff.
Eric Young defeated Kofi Kingston
This was OK but this feud isn’t blowing me away yet. I don’t have a whole lot to say one way or another. Yay?
Jeff Hardy defeated United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification
I liked the match right up until the screw job ending. Nakamura is KILLING it as a heel though. Randy Orton was as interesting as he has been in years during that post match beatdown. Maybe we will get something interesting out of this yet.
An Idiot’s Opinion: This wasn’t a bad show in the slightest. The opener and maine event both went well and the Miz segment did it’s job. Shockingly the shorter the show is the better WWE does with it. Weird right?
TJP defeated Noam Dar
The match was fine but these are two of my least favorite guys in the division. I have no desire to see TJP anywhere near the title again.
Drew Gulak defeated Danny Garcia
Now, we have someone that I DO want to see near that title. Drew has been one of the (if not THE) MVP of this show since the Enzo era. A match between Ced and Drew for that belt would be a damn classic. Make it happen WWE.
Lio Rush defeated Akira Tozawa
Another match I liked a lot. Lio is great and Tozawa has been severely underutilized since he lost the championship. 205 continues to fill time with good stuff.
Mustafa Ali, Hideo Itami, TJP and Drew Gulak will battle for WWE Cruiserweight Championship opportunity
That match is going to be off the fucking charts and I will be watching with bells on. Ced maybe should watch what he asks for next time. Drew for life in that one.
Overall Opinion: 205 Live gets the nod this week. 100% a show that I pretty much enjoyed from beginning to end. Smackdown at least made it closer this week though. RAW continues to bring up the rear.
